An environmental designer takes part in
the elaboration of interior design, environment, and communication
spaces projects. This person must be able to intervene in
several areas of environment design : inside (walls, floors,
ceilings, architectural ornament), or outside (façades,
spaces, urban furniture), also be capable of setting up
an ephemeral environment such as scenography for street
shows, theatre, cinema, TV etc., and restore heritage buildings.
A graduate in environmental design will
find employment in an architect’s studio, within a
multi-function group of designers (state or private), or
as an independent designer, taking whole programmes in charge.
Applicants must have obtained a secondary
degree in art and design, or have attended a one year foundation
course. Admittance is granted after close scrutiny of academic
records and shortlisted students are then interviewed and
asked to present a personal portfolio.
After graduation, students can apply for
the dsaa (post-graduate) course, teachers’ training
college preparatory course, the National School of Decorative
Arts, the National School of Fine Arts, the school of landscape
design, the school of scenography, the school of architecture,
or various schools abroad.
Beside academic tuition,
environmental design provides courses in plastic art, art
history, scenography, event design, professional work and
research, technology, computer assisted design.
